Fibr ("we", "our", "us") operates the Fibr Chrome extension and the website at tryfibr.app (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Chrome Extension
The Fibr Chrome extension is designed to be privacy-first. It:
- Does not collect any personally identifiable information (PII)
- Does not track or record your browsing history
- Does nottransmit any personally identifiable information, your full URLs, or what you view to our servers or any third party (see "Anonymous Usage Counts" below for the single, non-identifying signal we do collect)
- Does not require an account, login, or registration
- Does not use cookies or similar tracking technologies
The extension downloads pre-scraped, publicly available fabric composition data from our data endpoint (hosted on GitHub Pages) and caches it locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local. It reads product pages on supported retailer websites solely to match products with their fabric composition data. All processing happens entirely within your browser.
1.2 Anonymous Usage Counts
When the extension displays a fabric badge on a supported retailer, it sends us that retailer's domain name (e.g. www.example.com) and the brand it matched, together with a two-letter country code that our server derives from your network location at the moment of the request. This helps us understand which retailers and regions to prioritize. This signal:
- Contains no personal data, account, email, or per-user identifier — it cannot be tied back to you
- Stores no IP address (the country code is derived in transit and the IP is discarded)
- Includes nopage URL, path, product, or search terms — only the domain, brand, and which section of the retailer the page belongs to (e.g. womenswear or menswear), so we can gauge demand for sections we don't yet cover
- Is sent at most once per retailer domain per day, and only on retailers Fibr already supports
1.3 Site Request Feature
If you use the optional "Request a site" feature in the extension popup, the domain name of the site you request is sent to our database. A request may also note the product section you're asking us to support (e.g. menswear) and, if you choose to provide it, your email address so we can notify you when it's available. Otherwise no personal information, browsing history, or identifying data is sent alongside this request.
1.4 Mailing List
If you voluntarily provide your email address to join our mailing list (via the extension welcome page or website), we store your email address solely to send you updates about Fibr. You can unsubscribe at any time by contacting us at the email address below.
1.5 Website (tryfibr.app)
We use Vercel Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data about our website. Vercel Analytics:
- Does not use cookies
- Does not collect personal data or IP addresses
- Does not track visitors across websites
- Is GDPR-compliant by design
1.6 Contact Forms
If you submit a form on our website (such as the brand partnership enquiry), we collect the information you voluntarily provide (e.g. name, email, message). We use this solely to respond to your enquiry and do not share it with third parties.
2. How We Use Information
Any information we collect is used exclusively to:
- Provide and maintain the Service
- Understand which retailer sites users want us to support
- Understand which supported retailers are used, and in which countries, to prioritize improvements (anonymous and aggregate)
- Send updates to mailing list subscribers (with consent)
- Respond to enquiries
- Improve the Service based on anonymous, aggregated website analytics
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal information with any third party for marketing or commercial purposes. We do not share data with advertisers.
4. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on the following third-party providers:
- Vercel— website hosting and privacy-focused analytics
- GitHub Pages— hosting for extension data files (publicly available composition data only)
- Supabase— database for site requests and mailing list (if you opt in)
- Google Fonts— web font delivery (Inter typeface)
Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.
5. Data Retention
Locally cached data in the extension is refreshed periodically and can be cleared at any time by removing the extension. Mailing list data is retained until you unsubscribe. Site request data is retained indefinitely in aggregated, non-identifiable form.
6. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we handle. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you
- Withdraw consent for mailing list communications at any time
- Request information about what data we have collected
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email below.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
9. International Users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
